EHSTRAFD - Most Probable Geographical Origin
Release 2 (Projects:303; Populations: 451; STRs:100)
Description:
MPGO is an EHSTRAFD module which allows searching for the Most Probable Geographical Origin of a given STR genetic profile. Geographical origin is estimated by the profile frequency in different populations. MPGO is available just for ISSOL, ESS and CODIS loci. |
Instructions:
• Populations are grouped in two main categories: "Labeled" - which refer to populations studied after a phenotypic, linguistic or other specific character (e.g. Caucasians, Berbers...) and do not reflect the entire population from a geographic area; and "Mixed" - which is the opposite of the first. You can choose one of them or both categories by selecting "All".
• The number of STR loci can vary from 2 to 15 loci. For one locus we recommend AFGT Module.
• Keep in mind that results depend on EHSTRAFD actual status, so before you start you should check if the locus status (chart from the right), the current release and/or populations status are convenient for your searches.

a) ISSOL - Interpol Standard Set Of Loci; b) ESS - European Standard Set, recommended by ENFSI; c) CODIS - Combined DNA Index System.
Tips:
- Try several combinations of loci number (with few loci and many loci);
- Choose first those loci with a low mutation rate: TH01 (0.01), TPOX (0.01), D7S820 (0.1), D5S818 (0.11), D16S539 (0.11), D19S433 (0.11), D3S1358 (0.12), D2S1338 (0.12), D8S1179 (0.14), D13S317 (0.14), CSF1PO (0.16), VWA (0.17), D21S11 (0.19), D18S51 (0.22), FGA (0.28);
- Interpret your results base on the map locations - clustering criteria, and afterwards base on the genetic profile frequency table - sorting criteria.
